3 simple habits that will boost your productivity

These days, it seems there are many barriers to the productivity we are desiring. So is there really a simple way to boost productivity?

There are, and while they are simple, they aren’t always easy. You have to practice and be consistent. If you struggle with staying on task, finishing things and overall getting stuff done, the reality is that you are going to have to work at it.

But, it’s possible to be more productive than you are now. You may not ever be as productive as that guy over in the next office. Or your brother or your neighbour. There will always be people who are more productive than you are, as well as those who are less productive. The key is to increase your present levels. Just be a little better than you are now, and then you can improve from there.

Here are three simple habits that will boost your productivity:

1. Finish What You’re Working On
If you are one of those who likes to multitask, you won’t want to hear this. When you finish the things you start before starting something new, you get more done. This one habit will help you tremendously. Try it. Resist the impulse to start a new thing before finishing what you are working on.

2. Stop Doing Unimportant Tasks
That’s right. One of the best ways to boost productivity is to do less. Take a look at your daily activities. What can be eliminated? What can be outsourced? See what you can remove, then use that saved time to get important things done. You’ve just increased your productivity.

3. Set A Timer
You can use a timer two ways: One, you can time how long it actually takes you to complete a task. This is a powerful tool that allows you to see how long something takes, and allows you to make adjustments as necessary.

Another way to use a timer is to set aside a certain amount of time to do something. This could be checking emails, researching a topic on Google, using social media, etc. Set the timer for 10, 15, 20 minutes and don’t allow yourself any more time than that. This keeps you from going down rabbit holes, and allows you to refocus back to other things that need to be done.

These are just three habits that can boost your productivity. The key is to find the strategies that work for you, and keep using them.
