Top 5 Cyber Security Tips for Business

It’s important to keep both your customer and business information safe. Data is easily compromised without the right security, which can pose a major threat to you and your customers.

Here are a few tips to keep your small business safe from cyber threats:

  • Make Sure You Have Strong and Authentic Passwords

You should make sure to regularly change your passwords and activate multi-factor authentication whenever possible. Multi-factor authentication is one of the strongest security measures you can use on your accounts to prevent hackers from accessing your information. For example, to login to your account, you will enter your password and a unique code sent to you via email. You should also craft strong passwords with capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

  • Don’t Leave Your Information Open to Others

Never leave important documents or electronic devices out for others to pry on. Anybody could easily steal your information. Store portable thumb and hard drives in a lockable cupboard when not in use.  Make sure to secure your phones and tablets with passcodes.

  • Routinely Monitor Your Accounts or Unusual Activity

Regularly check your bank accounts, social media accounts, and other online accounts for transactions or interactions that you did not make.

  • Make Sure Your Devices Have Up-To-Date Security Patches

Run weekly malware and antivirus scans on all of your business’s devices. Also, update your software with the latest security updates as soon as they arrive. With the number of malware attacks increasing, it’s getting easier than ever to become the victim of a scam.

  • Be Careful What You Share on Social Media

Do everything you can to protect yourself on social media. Blur out any images that reveal personal information and avoid online interactions that seem unsafe to you. It’s easy to get tricked into a scam by a direct message or post on social media. Never click on anything you don’t trust.
